2 different Q on pools and watts

hawiiangecko Apr 24, 2006 06:02 PM

read this link:

i read this and wondered is it really safe to let your boas do this.

and my next question is, can a herpstat handle all the watts from a 30 piece rhinoraxx system from boaphile.com, and two zoomed 6" x 9" heating pads? i believe the anser is yes but just want to make sure.

1) Snakes are great swimmers, raises two questions in my mind though, first is the chlorine in the pool safe for the boa to consume/absorb????? Second, did the snake go in voluntarily??

The herpstat should be able to handle the wattage, but, those are three different heat sources and where do you put the probe? Might have to run a dimmer between the herpstat and one or more of the heat sources so you can adjust individual heat sources relative to the probed heat source.

when you read up on the 2 heating pads, it says it max's out at 20 degrees higher than room temp. so if i set it up to the raxx's liking, then it would be fine at the temp set. ONLY A THEORY. a dimmer would be a great idea. thanks for mentioniong. know anywhere i could get one?

I'd just make my own with a few parts from the hardware store:

A 4-plex electrical box, light dimmer on one side, outlets on the other, Power cord with one side to outlets and the other side to outlets through dimmer switch. Pretty simple for anyone with a bit of electric wiring knowledge.

Hi, as far as the thermostat is concern - it Can handle it all right, but make sure that every enclosure is the same dimension, and the same amount of (flex-watt, I think your using). If the higher tubs get warmer, then you'll need to apply dimmers appropriately. But If your adding extra heat sources to others (ie, heating pads) then I'd run those enclosures separately, on a different t-stat. Make sure of these things:

1) That you monitor these tubs plenty of times (a few days) before adding live animals to them. Both daytime and night time.
2) Have a way to check the temps in each tub, front and back - with and without substrate - using a temp gun, along with multiple digi-thermometers.

don't worry, the rhinoraxx is all in one piece identical. so there will be no differences. as for those tips, thanks. i'll keep those in mind
