sulcata not growing

chrismartin Apr 24, 2006 08:31 PM

hello i know there has been topics on here befor asking the same question but im still going to ask it.
ok
ive had my sulcata since sept of last year and ive been feeding it alfalfa grass, collard greens, dandelions(in season) and just plain lettuce. he used to have alot of energy and would ramp around his cage but now he just sleeps. he still eats when ever i put food in the cage but i have to move him to the food and he eats it then. i try to soak him 2 times a day but i sometimes forget. when ever its sunny out i put him out side and he seems to like that but he hasnt gotten any bigger. i know it takes a while for them to grow but it doesnt seem like he has grown at all. am i doing somthing wrong? has this happened to anyone else? if so what did you do. all help would be awesome.
thanks for taking the time to read this and help me out.

chris

Do you have a scale? Have you weighed him? He may have gained weight without you realizing that he has.
It's good for them to grow slowly, you don't want them to pyramid. If he's eating the right diet, I just don't think I'd worry about it just yet.

About soaking him twice a day, he doesn't really need that much soaking. Although they need water, they don't need too much of a good thing. My sulcata is large she'll soak on her own maybe 3-4 times per week in summer, and she always has a water dish available to her when she wants it.
My desert box turtles who've had to stay in this winter can't have a water dish because it'll make too much of a mess. They get soaked once a day. When they're outside & have the choice, they'll still soak once a day & that's apparently enough for them.
I try to stick to natural routines as much as possible.
