Finding a new home..

MENROXY Apr 24, 2006 08:41 PM

Hi.. I've had a bearded dragon for about 4-5 years.. I have been thinking about finding a new home for her just becasue I dont give her enough attention as I should.. And especially since my cheerleading tryouts are soon, and that means practice 6 times a week every day after school. I just think I should find her a better home because I know theres someone else that would take really good care of her.. I take good care of her, as in feed/bathe/and clean her cage.. But I dont have her out barely ever..

But my question is, Is this gunna have a bad effect on her health if I do? I've heard that if you do this that they can get depressed, and ill, because of such a big change.. ?? Can anyone help me decide? Thankyou Bunches!!

it can cause stress on the dragon getting used to a new owner, new home and by moving the dragon, but its not a life threatening event. people ship dragons overnight in the mail to others and most of the time they are just fine. if one does arrive DOA its usually not a problem with the dragon its usually the shipping companys fault of not properly taking care of the package. of course it is better to find a new local owner one who can pick up the dragon its less stressful than shipping the dragon, but shipping is ok too. hope this helps

if your just trying to find the dragon a good home and make no money out of it, then the best thing to do is give it to someone local. put an add in the local paper or leave a pic at you local pet store. give it to a kid who will show a ton of interest in it but before you give it to them make sure you talk to the parents to make sure they will help take care of and supervise the taking care of the dragon. if you try to give her away on here then I can tell you I'm almost sure someone is going to try and breed her and if she 5 years old it could kill her to lay eggs.

peach is right, at 5 years old breeding should not be done with this girl. if u try to post her on here, i would suggest putting a clause on her that shes not for breeding, and that you will not give to someone who will breed her. i know someone may be sneaky and say they wont and then do it, but still you could try anyways. but it probably would be better to do it locally to someone who wont breed her. some local pet shops may even take her from you if you can no longer care for her.

No, im not going to sell her on here, or anywhere else.. Im going to sell her locally.. but do you guys think it would b a better idea to give her to a someone young or should i give it to an adult.. i was sort-of thinking that an adult would be better because they'd always make sure to take care of her and take good responsibility.. or should i give it to a kid where then he'd show alot of interest in it? i dont know what to do..

thats totally up to you really. some younger people do very well raising reptiles if they are interested enough. you dont want to give it to a kid or someone who will lose interested in it in a few months. adults on the other hand may be better or could be worse. adults usually have more to do from work to college or whatever it may be and may not have the time to take care of a reptile at times. it all depeneds really. i would just put some adds up in the newspaper or in petstores and see what you get. always ask people who are interested questions of how to take care of the animal. hope this helps
