Bredl's feeding

captnemo Apr 24, 2006 10:11 PM

Has anyone had any difficulty switching Bredl's from mice to rats? I've switched several jungles and one bredl's through scenting, etc, but have a female bredl's that won't make the switch. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Mike

I have a Irian Jaya Carpet Pythton shes 4 years old tried everything (previous owner and I did also) she won't take a rat, not even if its sented like mice.

She'll eat mice all day everyday though if i let her

I have 4 Bredl's and 3 switched over by giving them their mouse first and when they were excited about feeding, giving them a rat. They love to eat so it was no problem.
One of them still refused rats for a couple months and the only way I got her to switch was to try giving her a rat first and if she wouldn't take it, give her the mouse. Their feeding response is always very good so one day she must have just been extra hungry and grabbed the rat without smelling it. She never refused another rat after that.

If it wasn't for their size potential, I'd have no problem feeding them mice (I'd rather breed a few pairs of rats than a dozen mice). She's already taken a scented rat once, but seems to have "wised up" to that trick. Both my Bredl's love to eat as well, so I'll probably give her a week or so and try priming her w/ a small mouse. Thanks for the input!

Primed her with a fuzzy mouse, and she ate a rat pup shortly thereafter!

Glad to hear it. Now you'll probably have to start looking soon for bigger cages.
