Can someone identify this snake?

lives in the wall behind the front door. stuck his head out when it got humid the other day. i thought it was a corn snake but now am not so sure. Austin, TX.

You should encourage it out with food and snag it!!! A full body shot would be better. I had a garter snake escape once. It crawled in a crack next to my sliding glass door and died. I guess since it could not back up, it had no where to go. I did not find it until it started to stink. Had to pull part of the wall apart to get it all out, because it was starting to decompose. My brother got the pleasure of that job, as I was out of town!! lol.

I agree with Rob - it is a Texas Rat. The postocular dark stripe that stops at the mouth line is diagonostic (see Conant and Collins, pp. 353).

Looks like a fine specimen - you should rescue him from the cruel world of nature and give him a fine place to live with lots of savory rats to eat.
