Overdue eggs?

Eringobragh Apr 25, 2006 01:01 AM

My first eggs of the year were laid on 02/05. They've been incubated at 78 degrees, and are big and beautiful, but have yet to hatch! None of my eggs last year took more than 70 days, and they weren't incubated, so I'm kinda stumped. They don't smell and aren't growing any exotic molds, so I don't think that they have gone bad. My husband(such a helpful creature)suggested that they might be over calcified, but I'm not sure how to go about diagnosing that, or what to do if thats the case. Any suggestions? Thanks for your help!

I think you are still ok.I just had a group of 3 that just hatched at about 100 days with the third taking 10 days longer than the first 2.You will probably find new ones in the incubator any time. Can you see dark coloration inside the egg like they have been developing?what about movement. If you stare at the eggs for a while,do you see any twitching?

Hey,thanks for replying!
As far as color goes, they definately look good. I pulled them out and stared at them for a while to check for movement and can't be sure on that. I think they did, but nothing big enough to be positive. Their as big around as large marbles! I did notice some weird lines in them, like cracks, but not imminent hatching cracks. They have been there since she laid, and as the eggs get bigger so do they. I don't have much experience in this. It's only the second year I've done this, and last year I had no probs. I'm sure it'll be fine. Here's hoping! Thanks!

The eggs were lain February of last year, about 14 months ago? Never heard of any egg taking nearly 400 days to hatch. You sure they are not bits of plaster somebody put in as a joke?

Humor aside, I am sure you meant February 2006, not 2005. Crested geckos take on average 65-75 days to hatch so could hatch any time now. Just keep incubating till the eggs either hatch or start to rot.

Okay, duh, I meant 2006. My brain ceases to operate from time to time I'll look into the plaster thing though, sounds like my husbands idea of funny. thanks. Courtney

My frist babies this year took three months to hatch (dec-march) at about 75-78 degrees. My eggs laid in january haven't hatched yet, but they are certianly alive. It took my eggs alot longer than people say to hatch, but i wound up with beautiful healthy babies..
