Leaf litter

glowdogsk Apr 25, 2006 08:01 AM

Hey everyone,

In my viv I have coco fiber and tree fern fiber as the soil. I have moss growing over some areas, and it looks very nice, but it is SOOOO slow to spread. So my question is this, is it okay to get some leaf litter to put over the soil to look a little more natural? Are there any types of leaves that are bad for my frogs? I would rather have leaf litter than bare soil in places, it looks so unnatural.

Thanks,
Steph

Leaf litter is an excellent cover to use. Oak leaves and magnolia leaves are very good in dart tanks and don't break down as rapidly as some of the others. (Avoid conifer litter such as pine needles--They contain turpenoids.)
