Adult female crested size

rosey-b Apr 25, 2006 09:59 AM

I'm currently babysitting a couple of adult cresteds for a friend of mine, and they happen to be the daughters of my breeding pair. They weigh in at 42 grams and 43 grams and are both without tails. My female weighs around 38 grams and my male is 42 grams and they both have their tales. Is my female an average size and her kids are hefty, or is she smaller then most adult cresteds? Since her kids have never been bred are they just carrying more fat stores? Just wondering how my little girl produced these monsters! How heavy are your breeding females? Thanks for any info.

It really depends on a lot of things.
Diet, humidity, Stress levels, how early the animals breed etc.
In my experience the ones that don't grow to be quite as large as the others are ones who have been breed kind of early. These geckos however if well fed, and given the proper break time from the breeding season will usually continue to gain weight, just not as quickly as the others.

Thanks for the info. My cresteds are separated now, and will be until next year. Maybe I can beef them up a little!
