Word cant explain how I feel right now

vcaruso15 Apr 25, 2006 10:18 AM

My wife called me at work this morning to going nuts. My female possible super possible het albino gave birth she said "I think theres an albino" I get home to find a pretty rough sight 17 slugs, 3 badly deformed babys and a handful of premies. Luckily there are a few babys that have absorbed most of there sac and look like they will make it. After taking some pics and removing mom I start to look at the babys. All the babys were hypos, so she proved out as a super good news. Then I look in the back of the cage and I see what looks like a Sunglow but has some color on her. I really think this is a Paradox Sunglow. I don't really want to disturb her but I really really think thats what she is. Here are a couple pics of the litter and more to come later when I can collect my thoughts. What do you guys think she is???

this is what I first saw.

This is such a hard litter my feelings are so mixed. Seeing the deformed babys was so hard, but that girl is so amazing.

Sorry for the bitter sweet way in which you proved her, I'm sure that slug pile and unviable neos were a heart breaking thing to see. I hope that sunglow pulls through.

Those premies are far enough along to make it. I've had babies that were less developed make it, just be sure they stay hydrated. Thats looks like a paradox sunglow to me!

I think it is a sunglow and the babies look like they can make it. Sorry the litter was premature but you gained some usefull information and hopefully a very nice sunglow from it.

little baby! Sorry to hear aout the slugs and others that didn't make it. We definitely know how you feel! I always like to look at the brighter side of things though - at least you have some babies that not only look like they are going pull through but have some killer color/pattern as well! AND you were able to prove the female out and (hopefully) she's doing okay!

That one does look lke a Paradox and I can't wait to see some more photos of it!!

Congrats again!

Thanks,
Celia

also. I hope that what looks like a paradox sunglow is. And congratulations on proving you girl out to be a super. This past season hasn't really been successful for alot of people, I myself had no luck with my pair. But hey, this season i'll try a little harder and better to make things happen. Take care of those little ones, they should be fine.

and the other babies you had. I really hope they pull through for you. Even though it wasn't the absolute best outcome, at least you know she proved out to be a super and het for albino which is really awesome. Keep us posted on how the babies are doing.

kind words. It really means alot to me to have your support. Thats why I love this forum, we may disagree at times but in the end we are really all friends. I never imagined I could be so happy and sad all at the same time. Seeing those premies die was harder than I thought it would be. On the other hand I cant believe how blessed I am with the little guys I recieved. I just hope they all make it.

Jeremy Stone Apr 26, 2006 10:50 PM

Vin, That is AWESOME. Those are KILLER. Congrats.. Jeremy

Jeremy Stone Apr 26, 2006 11:02 PM

By the looks of those Hypos, it looks like your female is a Super, and a HET. That is very very cool. Those are just awesome hypos. I know it sucks with the Slugs and stuff, but at least you proved her to be a HET albino, and that is cool. Were there any Normals in the litter that weren't hypo? How big was the remaining litter that lived? It looks like that sunglow can make it but that yolk will have to be removed if it doesn't soak it up. It is better then having it absorb all the yolk and have the BIG BELLY syndrome.

Take care, Jeremy

vcaruso15 Apr 27, 2006 07:31 AM

Thanks for responding. I ended up cutting the sacs on all three of the paradox sunglows. The whole litter was hypo so I feel confident that she is a super hypo het Sunglow.

The litter consisted of 17 slugs

4 paradox sunglows (one is deformed but still alive I don't know what to do with him)

9 hypos (1 was very premature and died right away another had a huge belly and it was split open when I found him he died soon after birth).

I am left with 7 hypos and 3 healthy paradox Sunglows. I am worried about 1 of the hypos because he has a HUGE belly.

I have a question for you. One of the paradox I cut the sac on looks really skinny should I try to feed him early???

Thanks again for the intrest in the litter it is really exciting for me. As a little side note the Motleys are doing great I cant stop looking at them!!!

Jeremy Stone Apr 27, 2006 02:48 PM

Hi Vin,

That sounds great. I bet the female was a Super too.

As to your question. NO, do NOT feed that animal. Even though it didn't have the yolk to sustain it for a couple weeks, it should go through a shed cycle, and be one of the first to eat. If you feel it is loosing weight or life, then assist it a small mouse pup, but don't do that for at least 1 week.

Great to hear those Motleys are doing well. That litter is amazing. I love that Hypo Pic, and those Paradox Sunglows are killer. Take Care, Jeremy
