DAILY RECORD (Parsippany, New Jersey) 22 April 06 Couple hopping mad, says frog's head found in food - Pair suing Pathmark, packaging company (Andrew Medeiros)
Watchung: Linda Lanza was cooking dinner for her family one night last December when she reached for a bag of frozen green beans.
She poured the bag into a pot of boiling water only to find something odd: In addition to frozen beans, she says, there also was one frozen green frog's head.
Lanza and her husband, Arthur, have filed a lawsuit against Pathmark and Twin City Foods in state Superior Court claiming both were negligent in allowing the frog's head into the bag of green beans.
Lanza said she purchased the bag of Pathmark brand green beans from the supermarket on Valley Road in Long Hill. According to Lanza's attorney, Timothy Barnes, Pathmark officials told him the beans were manufactured, packaged and distributed by Twin City Foods, based in Stanwood, Wash.
Barnes said he has been working with Pathmark, but they have been unable to reach a settlement.
"They came over and took pictures and looked at the frog's head," Barnes said. "That was weeks ago. They've taken no action or response. We've given them every opportunity to settle the case. They've decided they want to litigate this."
Calls to Pathmark and Twin City Foods were not immediately returned.
Barnes said the most interesting part of the case isn't the frog head. "The real question is, what happened to the rest of this frog?"Barnes said. "Who knows? We'll probably never know. This is something I think the public should know about. This should not happen in this day and age."
Lanza declined comment through her attorney.
