Escaped 9/3/05 ... FOUND!!!

Well...I've got my Baird's back!!! Amazing! He's been gone the better part of 8 months. Got out of the snake room & into the basement. Found him today (on my youngest son's 10th birthday). He's bigger. Saddles are gone...Now he has stripes. He obviously spent some time "chillin'" this winter, but he almost looks like he must have found a nest or two of mice along the way. He's back in my snake room now, warming up a bit & with fresh water. I'm REALLY pleased. Every time you guys posted a pic of a nice Baird's, I got kinda sad. Really didn't think I would see him again. I assumed he was dead. NOPE! He actually looks fat & sassy. HOOORRAY!!!!!!!! :D

Glad to hear it worked out. I can imagine how fabulous that must feel.

wow, that was certainly a thread of a different color! you really lucked out big time! what are the chances you'd actually get back a healthy, more mature bairdi after all that time, slim & none kinda comes to mind immediately! if i were you, i'd be playing the powerball all summer long....& when you do hit, buy some mandarins & coxi......:>]

His old cage is still sitting on the basement floor without the lid on it. I kinda hoped he'd crawl back in at some point. He has outgrown the cage, his old tp roll hide, and the size of prey that I was feeding him.

Funny story: The day he came up missing I heard beer cans from my old collection falling down and assumed it was a mouse. Later I decided that if I had gone down asap I would have found him crawling around the cans that very day.

So yesterday I hear...that's right...beer cans falling again! I go down and he's knocking them off the shelf. It's REALLY good to have him back. I hope he hasn't aquired too much a taste for "wild" mice! Will keep you all posted. Duffy

That's great news.Once my blackrat escaped his cooling container in my basement and was M.I.A. for 5 months!I looked for him every day and finally found him in one of the spots I always looked(on top the heat duct).Got him back just in time to breed him to an amel. female to produce 9 perfect hets.
