Found after nearly 8 months!

duffy Apr 25, 2006 05:24 PM

My Baird's ratsnake escaped on 9/3/05...Out of my snake room & into the basement. Nearly 8 months later (and on my youngest son's 10th birthday) I just found him again. He's grown, too! He must have spent some time brumating during the Ohio winter, but he looks like he must have located a few mouse nests along the way. He's actually fat & sassy. Sure hope he hasn't developed a taste for those wild mice...I've heard it can happen. Oh well, I'm super pleased. So all you who have lost a snake or two along the way...DON'T GIVE UP!!! Duffy

I once lost a Hognose for 6 mths in my house. It was also over the winter, no doubt that is why he survived.

If you snake did indeed find some wild mice, I would seriously consider getting a fecal done to check for parasites. After such an amazing return, I would want to make sure all is well, andto make sure there are no problems down the line. Just a thought.

Congradulations!

A good thought, Jen, and one that I have certainly considered. The good news (food-wise) is that he ate f/t yesterday, so at least he isn't "spoiled" on whatever he was eating. I'm going to make sure this guy sticks around awhile. Duffy
