Water Level

i tried to breed my res today and the male wanted to breed, but the female swimming into a corner of the tank. the male sniffed around her vent, but never mounted her. the water level right now is 5" - 6". dose it need to be deeper? thanks

Not necessarily. You're turtles just need to be in the mood. It is a very rare thing to just put them together and have them start mating immediately.

If they are in a sufficent space and get along well you really don't need to separate them at all.
