ExoTerra VS. Zoo Med Ceramic Heat Bulbs

beachbeardies Apr 25, 2006 07:42 PM

i was wondering what people preffer on heat bulbs or any other products. i currently am using Exo Terra Ceramic Heat Emitters. i know zoo med makes them also but are a bit more expensive. does anyone know if they are any better and actually worth the extra money, or just priced higher for the name? i use exo terra repti glo 8.0 UVB bulbs as well. i see alot of people recommend using zoo med 10.0, same question is there any difference between the 2 besides the higher price for zoo med?

Never used ceramic heat emmitters with my dragons, for heat I just used regular household bulbs found at Homedepot and other lighting supply stores. There is a difference between the Exo Terra Repti-glo 8.0 and the Zoo Med Repti-sun 10.0 UVB bulbs. The 10.0 does put out more UVB rays than the 8.0. Other than that and the slight difference in price, there isn't anything. Pretty much your preference, to go for the little extra UVB light and the extra cost or stick with the 8.0 you are currently using. However even with Exo-Terra, I did notice a remarkable difference when I switched from their 5.0 to their 8.0 in my bearded dragon. Her colors seemed more intense under the light and she seemed happier for the extra 3.0 bits of UVB. Not sure if there would be as much difference between teh 8 and 10 rated bulbs, only way to know is to try it and see if your dragon shows any difference.

so you can use household basic light bulbs for heat bulbs? i have been told not use these for whatever reason. wow that would be alot cheaper. i think i will stick to my ceramics ive got for my breeder adults, and use the basic household bulbs on the babies i have hatch. what wattage bulbs do you use when it comes to the household bulbs? any specific kind?

ya i have noticed a huge difference between 5.0 and 8.0. im sure 10.0 would make a difference as well, just pricey. i find my exo terra 8.0 about 7 dollars cheaper than zoo meds 10.0. i can buy exo terra in bulk on lllreptile as well. zoo meds are not in bulk, for whatever reason.

thanks
