hello everyone! Can you take a look at this dragon and tell me if you think it is male or female. I appreciate it.

To my untrained eye, yours can be an older female or a young male, its very hard to say at this moment. My older female looks like yours, however a young male still in development can show a similar morphology, in any case if it’s a male you will know soon enough as his bulge will develop at any time sins he’s an adult now.

Sorry I cant be of more help, I still have much to learn on these lizards.
However thanks for asking sins I just realise while taking these photos that my first female is again gravid with her 3 clutch.

Thank you Jobie. My first quess was adult female. She was left for about four months in a pet shop, and I could not resist her. Every time I went in the pet shop for crickets for the other dragons, I held her because I felt sorry for her. Finally, I could stand it no longer, and she became a part of our group. She sits nicely with the other dragons. I really hope she is female, as Mike, whom we accuired as a nice captive bred male, joined our group also. Do you think she is capra?

I appreciate your help here.

I'm really thinking female. Usually I can sex my babies by the time they are 4 months old and definitly by the time they are a year. The belly is more of a female build too, the male tend to be more slender.

Without the head I would say capra but must see how many horns and the neck markings to be certain of species.

Hello Marcia. Glad that Phoebe is actually a Phoebe. Does she look real old toyou? I have no idea how old she is. I held her last night, and she flared her pouch at me when I touched her cheek. Just real quickly. Then, I rubbed her on her head, and she seemed to really enjoy that. I moved their branches closer to the water bowl. Below is her profile. She is quite a stunning beauty, if I do say so myself! he he. I noticed you have some green dragons. We only have brown in this area.

PS: I called my pet shop last night and asked them to save me a styrofoam container from their fish delivery, which I am picking up today! Should I refrain from holding Olympia? I don't want to hurt her.

Phoebe is a beautiful dragon! And, she is a capra. I sort of though so when you said she had a white streak below her eye. That seems typical for capras. As for age, I think that is a very difficult thing to assess. Unless they are very small and the horns and crest are not fully developed there isn't much to judge that buy that I know of. I would say she is adult, beyond that it is no more than a guess.

I do try to leave the gravid females to themselves once they are fat. I don't like to stress them and risk any chance of problems. You do have to monitor their progress to some extent, an occasional quick exam to see where things are, but for the most part leave her to do her thing.

When she starts to nest then you need to watch to make sure that she isn't having any problems. Until then, no worries!

Way to go on the container, those are the best!

marcia,

Thank you for writing and for all of your help. Olympia is spending more time at the bottom of the tank now. I am constantly looking in on her. I am picking up the container today, as my regular shop did not have one. I am also pleased that Phoebe Sue has a classification now. She is a wonderful addition to our tank. As for little Mike, I noticed he seems to have grown in the last week, and has been flaring his gular pouch more. I guess he is feeling his manhood. Good for him.

Your babies are so beautiful. I showed them to my husband last night, and he thought so too. I hope we are lucky enough to get a few babies from Olympia's clutch, but I have no experience, and am nervous.

I am due to pick up the new Gono today. I am not confident it will arrive, as the shop is a little lax with orders. I will be dissapointed of course. I will let you know if he comes in.

tra - PS thanks for allyour help.

RE: the picture of Phoebe, She seems do be a little dry, so I have been squirting her a lot. She just went through a serious shed. She has these cool white stripes under her eyes my husband calls war paint.
