Thamnodynastes question

snakeman54 Apr 26, 2006 05:32 AM

Does anyone know whether the Genus is oviparous or
(ovo)viviparous?

Thamnodynastes are ovovivparous. I've got my babies to feed on mosquito fish/guppies. A couple from my litter took a while to get interested in food, but after being patient, I put in a clear medicine cup with the minnows and they would observe them and when a minnow would leap from the cup, the baby Thamnodynastes would pursue it and eat it. A couple others were shy so I assist fed them the guppies, and after a few times of this, they took after minnows by themselves. The adults are offered large guppies/mollies and pluck the minnows from the cups if they don't jump out and they also are quick to eat frogs and some will eat lizards.

Mine ate guppies and then switched effortlessly to anoles. The first one introduced disappeared rapidly. It ate several more.

The bad news is apparently one of the lizards I collected was contaminated (probably with insecticide). I found my Thamo dead yesterday (with excellent body weight and no sign of disease).
