Hognose breeding questions

Naja-naja Apr 26, 2006 03:28 PM

I have some questions for the Hog breeders out there...

1. How can I tell if my female is interested in breeding with my male?
2. How long should I put them in together for?
3. I put them together for about 30 seconds last night and she looked like
she was going to eat him or just find out what the hell I was putting
another snake in her cage for so I just took him back out.
4. My corns have bred twice now and my hogs haven't yet and I was wondering
is it to late to breed them?

My corns bred on 3/30 and then again on 4/23 and my male still wants to stay
in her cage to mate and when I take him out my female gets pissed and my
male tries to get out of his cage and back in hers but my hogs dont do
anything
my male tries to get out but when I take him out he starts to hiss even when
I put him in with the female. The female will hiss and musk if you even try
to tuch her (she never acted like this before) and I dont know if I did
something wrong or what. any ideas?

Also my female hog is 131g
my male is 60g
female corn is 528g
male corn is 231g.

1. How can I tell if my female is interested in breeding with my male?

Many times when placed together the female or male start making small jerky movements around each other. The female also slowely crawls around moving her tail from side to side.

2. How long should I put them in together for?

As long as possible, the more copulations the better your chances for fertile eggs.

3. I put them together for about 30 seconds last night and she looked like she was going to eat him or just find out what the hell I was putting another snake in her cage for so I just took him back out.

30 seconds isn't going to do the job...30 hours will.

4. My corns have bred twice now and my hogs haven't yet and I was wondering is it to late to breed them?

No, perfect time to breed. Sometimes you never see mating, about half of my hognose breedings I see no action and the females lay fertile eggs. Make sure your female is feed as much as she can eat. If she does not have good body weight you will get nothing.

Good Luck,
Rich
