you can get it at most custom sign shops. I'm not sure what you are using it for but if you are making a rack for ball pythons I'd reconsider. I thought I'd try it and now regret spending the money on the supplies much less spending the time to construct. I followed a very good design and made one modification to help prevent sagging however it still sags with just a 32qt bin, water dish and med sized corn snake per lvl. I think a heavier ball python would cause even more sagging. here is a pic or two of the rack.

wood frame and xpvc shelves. I used 1/4 inch sheets so maybe if you go with 1/2 or thicker maybe you won't get any sagging. The sagging I'm experiencing is small but noticable when you slide the shelves in and out, there is binding going on and the frame is still square so I know the wood didn't warp.

Try looking on the Piedmont Plastics website for your local branch. I'm currently paying about $50/4'x8'x.25" sheet for white and about $9 a sheet more for black. It is also available in 1/2 and is about $100-125 a sheet.
If you can't find a Piedmont Plastics near you, try GE PolymerShapes or any other plastics wholesaler/supplier.
Good Luck!

You'll have to call them. If you are looking for expanded PVC then try reffering to the Sign Board products. I personally use the Cintra brand of "foamed" or expanded PVC. You will have to call them to find out what is available to you.
Good luck!

there are all kinds of plastics on this website

I used the 1/4" on the shelves and 3/4" for the support pieces and don't notice any sagging, I found my source for PVC by looking in the yellow pages under "signs, supplies".
Cheryl

I don't live near any major city but was able to get two sheets of Black 1/2" PVCX shipped to me for $209 total. This was from over 400 miles away. I got it from Port Plastics. If I had gone with 1/4" I could have gotten it for significantly less than some of the prices mentioned in this thread.
I really like PVCX but do have a few comments on it.
Even though it is one of the lightest plastics on a per-thickness basis, it's not nearly as light as people suspect. There are actually brands of 1/2" PVCX that are HEAVIER than 1/2" plywood. No kidding - look it up. So if lightness is as issue try to use the 1/4" material. If the 1/4" is not sag resistant enough for your project then consider another material.
Celtec 550 is one of the lightest PVCX products and it what I purchased for $209 above.
I don't think PVCX is the best material for DIY racks. I don't think any plastic sheeting is. The pros use it more because it saves on labor time, not because it is the best choice.
If you must use it for a rack, one way to use the thinner material is to have the weight of the box supported by the sides rather than the shelf itself. To do this you only have to make the boxes run on a track. Works very well unless you need a rack to hold more than one box per shelf. You can do this with leftover strips of material or use PVC corner angle.
Since this is a ball python forum, plan your design very carefully. For boxes larger than the typical 28/32 qt. sweater box you're often better off using some of the oversized sheets, even though they cost more per sq. ft. You end up saving money because you use the material more efficiently.
In summary, I think it's very important to decide what design features are most important to you before picking a material for a rack. I help a lot of people build cages and racks and too often see them rush into a material or design only because it's what someone else uses.

thanks very much for that help. I have never built anything of the sort before, never even picked up tools before, so Im hoping to keep it simple and not **** it up.
http://www.arbreptiles.com/cages/iris_rack/iris_rack.shtml that link is the blueprint and style I was thinking of following. tricky thing IS, Im not using Iris bins, I am using sterilites.... And since Im an idiot when it comes to this sort of thing, Im going to have think real hard at this and figure out how to adjust those measurements to fit me. And where the rack is going will not suit the front loading style shown there. Im modifying it even further to have everything sit sideways, and the bins pull out the other way. Even more complications I have to muddle through
Also cost is my biggest issue. I have got to get my snakes into something bigger but I really cannot afford $200 and up. Wood and pegboard is cheap so I jumped on that.Anyway if anyone else has any suggestions or help for me, it would be very much appreciated!

I think those plans at ARB are nice. A bit trickier to build than a typical rack, however.
I totally forgot about this plan that I saw on the Boa forum. I have an expensive table saw and can pretty much build whatever I want. But this is probably what my next rack will be.
Very simple to build.

Thanks for that link. I kind of like the one with the runners rather than the one in the other thread you posted, because like that the bin is a tad above the heat tape, as its on runners. the ones in the second thing, sit right on the shelf, no space for air circulation. Or maybe there is and Im just not seeing it. Ill email the guy and see if he can explain it to my dumb *** lol
