everglades X okeetee

pdcreptiles Apr 27, 2006 03:35 AM

Has anyone ever bred or seen this cross? I have two female okeetee's that are gravid from this pairing. Just trying to get an idea of how the offspring might look.

I've seen this before not with okeetee's but normal corns basicly you get both strips and blotches showing with reduced color in the blotches. However not all the everglades i've seen have had the same intensity in their stripes coloration so I would suspect that this would be faily variable based on that. Secondly since I've seen everglades can vary from yellow to red/orange then I would also thing that would play into it too. I'd show you some pictures that I'd saved a while ago but sadly I can't seem to find them right now.

On a side note if your interested were doing a long term study over at HBA on hyrbids/intergrades and would love to record some of our breeding data for these pairings.

Several years ago I bred an albino sunglow motely corn to a whitesided everglades ratsnake. The babies were reddish. But its what the second gen of any cross will produce is fantastic looking. Thats why some people don't think hybrids are pretty. They only look at the first gen without realzing the second gen (F1 bred brother and sis)throw all sorts of freaky stuff. This applies to normals or reccessive traits of all crosses..

I let the animals of that project go several years ago, so I never bred the offspring back to each other.. There is one person who I stay in touch that got a pair from me in AZ. He will hopefully produce a whitesided albino motely this yr.

Thanks for the replies, the male everglades is hypo and is like neon orange/yellow , have not seen another one that can touch him, and the female okeetee's are both above average looking, so hopefully I will get some nice babies. Next year I will have some whitesides and hypo/whitesides to throw in the mix also.
