Eco Earth...can I soak/dry/store?

tc_legacy Apr 27, 2006 08:20 AM

Hi,

I previously used sphagnum moss in my moist hides but have decided to try Eco Earth instead. However, right now I am down to just 2 leos...there's no way I need to soak the whole Eco Earth brick but I can't break it apart! Tried smashing it with an actual brick but no will break! Sooo...if I soak the whole thing (resulting in 7-8 liters of substrate) can I then just wait for the remainder to dry out and re-store it? I've never used Eco Earth before so I wasn't sure.

Thanks,

I pre soak and store mine moist but make sure its not too wet or it will sour and mold. Bacteria breeding grounds. I would recommend putting it in hot water and wait for it to expand a little then break off what you want and try to dry store the rest. I personally like moss better I just cant find any good stuff near me. All I can find is the mulched stuff. If you decide to use eco earth make sure you keep it moist because if it dries it get dusty which could potentially cause respiratory problems.
