glueing flexwatt

highendhabitats Apr 27, 2006 09:03 AM

Has anyone tried to use a spray adhesive such as 3M heavy duty spray adhesive to adhere flexwatt to their cage?
I don't think the heat will pose a problem as temps don't get that high.
Any experience with this let me know.
Thanks Carey

I use tape specifcally metal cloth tape, to secure all my flexwatt. For the soul purpose that I reuse my flexwatt over and over if necessary. I have yet to throw out a piece, with glue that would be difficult. But I believe it would work just the same.

Thanks Bighurt.
This is for a pet store's display cages I am making so I won't be reusing the flexwatt. I will post photos asap. This is going to be a nice set up. 8 - 5' cages of varying hts. some with removeable dividers. Each unit will be on a pull out rail system so the cages can be pulled out from their wall niche. I am using one 5' length of flexwatt per unit to keep cord usage to a minimum. Now with their terrariums and heaters for each cage it is a jungle of cords! What a mess!
I guess I should test it out.

I would not glue flexwatt down with any type of spray adhesive, contact cement/glue, etc. They may melt the plastic. That could lead to a short and failure. I have used a hot glue gun, no problems. I also used thumb tacks placed through the clear edges that run down each side of the flexwatt. I folded a small piece of foil tape,1/2 inch, over the clear edge of the flexwatt. Then I used a small hammer to drive the tacks through the foil tape and flexwatt and into the shelf.
If you still want to try some type of glue, I would carefully read the label and contact the manufacturer to be sure that it will not melt the plastic.
