Blue Tongue Skink

stape61 Apr 27, 2006 12:06 PM

Hi,

I have a blue tongue skink that I have had since November. He does not like fruit or vegs except bananas. He loves mega worms and does not eat mice. I have started to feed him monitor/tegu food in a can as he will not eat dog/cat food. It seems he only likes monitor/tegu food, mega worms, and bananas. He looks very healthy and sheds every month. He was 6 inches when I got him and he is over 12. Should I be worried about his eating habits or is he ok. His body is perfect not to fat or skinny and he is very alert. Any responses would be appreciated.

Thanks

I would be worried long term.

Basically, Blueys get spoiled very easily. kind of like us Americans...we love fatty foods that arent always good for us. In nature, it's mostly snails, worms, and anything it can catch.

I would reccommend to let him get hungry before offering something more nutritious. If he still snubs his nose at it, take it away and try again tomorrow. Sooner or later, a bluey's appetite will make him try anything that has smell to it.

So the canned monitor/tegu food is not good? Also how long should I let him go without eating until I give him a tasty treat?

how old is he? type of bluey? etc???

an adult skink should only be fed every 3 days or so ...

try chopping everything up in a chopper so he cant pick through for only the tasty morsels.

the post above talks about diet as well. and visit the caresheet at www.bluetongueskinks.net
