Did that person say they were an expert or you just think that person is an expert? The reason I say this is, most often people call anyone with a tad bit more experience an expert. Or anyone that offers advice an expert. Neither case is necessarily true. An expert is someone who has mastered or extremely skilled at a task/job/subject. So an expert with monitors should have more to offer then words. You see, nearly everyone has words to offer. So telling who is an expert and who is not, is very challanging. Most people that offer varanid advice are "parrots" that is, they are merely repeating something they heard. Beware of this.

A quick tip on telling which is which. Parrots most of the time offer no leway, that is, monitors are this, and that, they do this, they eat this, they use this temperature.

Those with experience usually offer a range of conditions. They do this, this, or this. They eat, this, this, or this. They can use this temp, or this temp or this temp, etc etc.

If your monitor is in conditions that allow it to do what its designed to do, it can consume prey items nearly as large as itself. So a pinkie is a tidbit. Pinkies are great monitor food.

About worms, most individuals and species of monitors do not care for worms of any kind. Of course there are exceptions. In this case, offer it a worm, if it eats it, digests it fine, and prospers from feeding on it, then its good. Good luck

None of my monitors have EVER taken any type of worm that was offered. They just don't appeal to them. But stick a mouse/roach/cricket in there and it's a different story.
