Some days just suck....

drimes Apr 27, 2006 05:18 PM

And today was one of them. I just had to have one of my “babies” put to sleep.
Naomi has not been well for quite some time so this was not a big surprise, but it still really sucks. She was x-rayed months ago and had some very obvious abnormal areas of her spine. We tried several different treatments in the hope of it getting better, or at the very least stopping it from getting any worse, and nothing seemed to work. So today we went for more x-rays, mostly to confirm what I already knew, she is not ever going to get better, just worse, so we decided that the best thing to do was put her down. She has hardly eaten anything in the last 6 months, she stayed on the heat all the time, and was in obvious pain. When she did move you could just tell it was very uncomfortable for her. Her muscles would be very tense and even after she would stop, it would take a long time for her to relax and “just be” again. At least she is no longer in pain.

She will be sorely missed!!

Take care, I hope your day has been better than mine.

Really sorry for your loss. When we do this hobbie, we all know that sometime what ever we do, the care we give, it happens and every time time it's not easy. We learn every time with both good and bad things !

So sorry to hear about your experience yesterday - I have unfortunately had a similar situation last year with one of our best Male Hoggs, and it is never easy.

On another note- the post you had a few weeks ago with your new babies.. I wanted to reply then and tell you those were Outstanding looking in color and pattern.

In fact.. we were in your area when you posted but you know how vacations are, driving there one minute and then on the way home the next. I really wanted to try and give you both a call to try and meet for a while,,, I hated being so close and not getting a chance to see you guys.

Hope all else is well and of course Tracy and I send you and Kathy our best and we will see you in a few months!!!!! DAYTONA AGAIN!!!

Wonder if Gray will be well enough to get out of the snake room to join us again this year.. I get a sneaking feeling he has not been seen much in person since his last 3 litters hit. I picture him with sleepy eyes.. scruffy face and the same clothes he had on when they were born. Ok.. im jealous..

It is nice to know that there are others that understand how it feels.

Shawn...sorry we missed you guys but I'm sure we'll see you in Daytona again. I'm sure that if you send Gray a big pile of money he'll let you look at one of his new babies as much as you want. LOL That guy continues to be my inspiration in the boa world! What a season he's having!!
