Cures for compaction

rconstrictors Apr 27, 2006 07:18 PM

I have an adult male dragon that is eating only sporadically and has not deficated in some time. So I suspect he's compacted. I soak him for roughly 20min. every few days but that has not produced a bowel movement.. Any suggestions/cures?

Thanks

of course if he is not eating much he wont deficate. but if he eating, and hasnt deficated in awhile then he could be compacted or just constipated. soaking does help, also id suggest feeding him romaine lettuce, carrots, squash, and any other veggie or fruit that hold a high amount of water. a pinkie mouse works with my dragons too. these usually cause runny stools and diarea in dragons, so it helps with compaction and constipation. try laying off insects and pellets for a bit and feed him the veggies and fruits. but do be sure he gets calcium and protein in whatever way you use. if this does not work get him to a vet

Here is a routine that has worked most of the time to move impactions out of bearded dragons, with some photo's also of baby dragons that were impacted who where brought to us.

If this does not work within a few days, or your animal is in distress, you need to take it to a vet right away
