"Harlequin" is the name of a bloodline, not just the striped/aberrant ones.(same thing that SHOULD'VE been done with the Jungles,in my opinion, you're looking for "markers" of trait expression within a bloodline that produces wildly variable results,in both pattern & pigmentation.some animals may appear "normal" but exhibit certain "markers",which, over time can be identified with a degree of certainty. this is why we are seeing "possible jungles" more frequently now, something which I predicted might happen a long time ago, even though I've never bred them.)

Hi Tim,

Not all babies in a litter are jungles though, it nots a bloodline, it's a variable expression morph. I have no intention of talking smack about the line, I am just confused...is Harli a bloodline or a morph?

You can try to hammer a square peg into a round hole, but if you cut the corners off you're going to miss something. Everyone would like to believe that you can ALWAYS tell everything about an animal at a glance, and obtain proof positive in one,or two breedings,(it's always more "convenient".)I don't believe that is true. What I do believe in regards to variably expressed anomolies,is linear continuity, without it you cannot prove anything in any genetic test,or equasion.

a proven morph or a bloodline? I always thought it was a morph, and had been compared to the Jungle in it's variable expressions.....

When you say bloodline I think, Ronne Monstertails, Davey Pastels, and stuff like that....

When you say morphs I think Arabesque, Hypo/Salmon, Albino, Motley, Jungle...etc

and please be patient with me Tim, maybe you've explained this here before, but I swear the Harlequin was thought to be a pattern and color morph.

They've been compared to all sorts of things, anything new is always compared to things we are already familiar with. This is where someone has to devote the time & effort needed to actually breed the animals, and objectively offer answers (instead of worrying about how much money they can make.)...That is what I've done...aside from a handful of people, all doing F1 outcrosses, the person with the most evidence of what this is,and what it does....is me....if NONE of the "normals" had ever produced ANY significant results when bred,it would be much less important to focus primarily on the "bloodline",and look for a way to classify the expressive individuals as a "morph"...I have evidence that supports the theory that both characteristics of pattern & pigmentation are tied directly to the bloodline itself,NOT just the visually expressive percentage of a given litter.

Nice Job.That stripe one looks like there mothers sister that i bread this year and is due June 15th.

drimes Apr 28, 2006 03:00 PM

Congrats! I was going to tell that it is not just the Harley influence that caused the abberrancies in them. Jeffs hypos contribute to that. Our girl,(the one that dropped the babies that I can't stop looking at and grinning), a couple weeks ago is probably a litter mate to your female. We got some very cool abberrant patterns and what not in our litter as well. Jeff has been producing some outstanding hypos for years, but you already knew that, you own one. (Jeff, you can pay me later )LOL.

Anyway Congrats again on a beautiful litter.

Kathy
