Mountain horned lizard - eggs

mamagargoyle Apr 28, 2006 07:26 PM

My sons mountain horned lizard Elvis, just produced eggs and started to bury them. Problem #1 - Elvis was supposed to be a he. Surprise! Problem # 2 - Do they lay eggs without a male? The last time Elvis was around a male was early November. We don't want them to die if there is a chance they may make it with a little help. Can anybody give us some advice. Thanks - Mamagargoyle

You can get excellent advice on FroggieB.com. A wonderful care sheet also. Mhd retain sperm. I wonder if she possibly laid eggs before and they were missed. My female laid 3 clutches from a mating. The first is about 4 months from mating and next are 2-2 1/2 months apart. Good luck with the eggs. The babies are lots of fun.

If you want to try to hatch the eggs, then do! I always treat the eggs as fertile until they prove otherwise.

For incubation instructions check my site at www.froggieb.com/MHDCaresheet.html#incubate and www.froggieb.com/ReptileMisc.html#shoebox.

Good luck!
