First outdoor afternoon

dianedfisher Apr 28, 2006 07:47 PM

Last weekend was lovely in Southern Indiana so Chyam and i both did some basking. He loves the sun almost as much as I do, so I imagine when the weather turns nice permanently, he will be spending time INSIDE his cage instead of OUTSIDE. Diane

Cyrus and Darwin both spent a few hours outdoors yesterday. I took Cyrus out again today. Initially he doens't like going back into his smaller cage but he does some serious basking. Darwin has not fully come out of his "whatever the hell this really is" brumation and I hoped the sun would perk him up. He crashed around 4:00pm. wrapped up in a t-shirt in his tank and slept until 9:00. Not sure what's up! Anyway, today he has been in a window for the last 3 hours so he's getting some more fresh air and sunshine!

Can you post some pics of that cage in some different views? It looks like the biovine goes right thru the hd'we cloth. Is this just a sunning cage? I make my moth mating cages out of 1/2" & 1/4" hd'we cloth and never thought about making one for my herps. The good screen cages they go into right now (Bio-Quip $$$ rearing cages)will be occupied by my caterpillars in a couple months.

thanks,
lele

I'm really bad with all of this linking stuff, but I posted 2 of my tube cages on my villagephotos site and I'm supposed to be able to send you there. If it works the cages are at the bottom of the photos and there aren't many. Diane

Thanks. They are similar to my moth mating cages.

Your dragons are so gorgeous! An animal I have long wanted, but do not have room for a setup. I did not know you could house them together - I take it 2 females and Avanyu? Btw, what does the name mean - I am sure there is some cool story behind it How big is their enclosure?

Hey,
Thats a really nice green. What kind of chameleon is that? Could i just use a bit of chicken wire around a ficus just to take charlie out in the afternoon sometimes?

Jeff

Hi Jeff. That's a Nosy Be panther. Yes, Charlie will love it outdoors. I have a separate cage for Valentino, too (my veiled). They are just made of 1/2" chicken wire with plant saucers for bases and tops, but just putting it around a ficus would work great if you're going to be around to monitor him. Diane

Thats what i thought it was... but obviously, im no expert ) The only times i would take him out is when i can watch him. I took him out for a little bit a week ago. I just grabbed his tree and moved it outside than put him on it and sat right there. I dont know what he thought... and there was a lawnmower going across the street that i dont think he enjoyed. but seeing yours and other chameleon owner's colors from outside sunning, i think i will keep with it. Like i said, you got a really great shade of green.

thanks,
Jeff

cham's have really poor hearing so the noise shouldn't have bothered him, but visually he may have thought it was some new jungle monster!

I asked that question a while ago about chameleon hearing and the responce i got was that they dont have external ears so they hear alot of base. This was a loud lawnmower that was shaking the waterdish of my plants, so it would be weird that he wouldnt hear it. He also reacted to it whenever it came closer, even though he was on the second story and the lawmower was a story down and another 30 feet from there. Other than that he really seemed to enjoy his sun bathing. His colors really came out. I think he is about to shed, so i increased the humidity around him a little bit and will take him outside when he is done.

Funny that he "grabbed" for it. Can't recall particulars, but there was a similar post from someone about their cham who was trying to reach for something outside, or faraway. You're right, he probably at the very least felt the vibrations/base from it. He was probably grabbing for it to shut the thing up like I do to a neighbor who revels in spending 3 hours mowing his massive lawn in this rural town! UGH - hate them.

Post some new pics after his shed
