some more info on your fire sal would help;
how big is it?
what do you keep it in and size of enclosure
temperature of enclosure
lighting?
if you sally is over 2 1/2"- 3" then pinheads are probaly to small, try 1/4" crickets, small mealworms, redworms, bloodworms (fresh or frozen and thawed), house flies (tong feed or remove wings).
make sure your sal is in the proper habitat with the proper conditions. your temps should not go above 65-70 degrees at the most, the substrate should be of a soil variety kept moist and moss and live plants as well as hiding places like logs, bark, or rock caves should be supplied. a water bowl your sal can submerge itself in should also be provided. if the sal isn't happy with its surroundings, it may not eat.

I just got my first baby Fire salamander last week at the NY reptile show. He is about 1 1/2 to just under 2 inches long,,, tiny compared to the 6,7,and 8 inch adults that I saw for sale also. I got some small phoenix worms and he took 2 from tongs the same day I brought him home. I waited a day and got him some small crickets. I put them in one at a time and he was right on it,,,,, they cant seem to resist the movement of live prey. I waited 1 more day and gave him another, he followed it around but would get right up to it and just sit there face to face. I walked away and came back 20 minutes later and it was gone. I have him in the same small plastic container that I bought him in and I am keeping him on plain wet paper towel. The small space and white substrate helps him to easily find his food, it also helps me when I go to check and see if the food was taken. I hope thios helps.

Thanks a lot. I think we might have bought the fire from the same person. I only saw one person with such small critters. Mine is also between 1.5 and 2 inches. It's suppose to be a present for my brother but he won't be home for a few weeks. My salamander isn't taking any of the crickets thats in its enclosure. It's living in a small critter keeper for the time being on moss and moist paper towel. Temperature is in the 60s-70s. I might move him to another cage later so I can monitor its eating habit more. I'll try to get him some phoenix worms. Do the tigers eat them too? Thanks a lot.
