Where to buy American toads?

Agaffer Apr 29, 2006 11:11 AM

Growing up in Los Angeles, California everybody's yards where filled with toads. Now there seem to be none. I would suppose this is due to snail poisons.
My backyard is a animal santuary and is totally walled in. I would like to replace the missing toads that used to live here and can't find anyplace to get toads.
Any help would be appreciated.

American toads aren't native to your part of the country. Are you sure that they weren't Bufo boreas or Bufo californicus? I'm not really sure where you might purchase those. I think B. californicus isn't doing too well in the wild.

Good luck,

Andrew

Thank you for your reply. I have no idea what species of toads used to live here. I just know that I would like to have snail eating toads in my garden like there were when I was younger. Any idea about any toad that would do well in California, that eat snails?
