I know this may sound stupid, but do you really need to feed them salad? I can't get mine to eat the salad; all he wants is some fat juicy crickets.

Yes you do. They get different vitamins from the salad mixture. There are different ways to get them to eat the salad. Mine in the beginning would never never eat them. Give it time. They will eat it. What I do is poor my cricket onto the salad and then my dragon will dive into the salad and get a mouthful of lettuce and crickets. hahahaha Some people told me to put mealworms in the salad also. That didnt work well for me. But pouring the crickets on top did. Now I see my dragons eat the salad without crickets. Hope this helps.

Thanks! That helps a lot. I will keep that in mind!
Greens are very important to a bearded dragon's diet, especially once they reach adulthood. As an adult they should be getting about 90% greens daily with only about 5-10% insect protein. Feeding too many insects into adulthood can cause problems in the dragon's health in later life.

For a proper balanced diet it is best that they eat either pellets or salad. Feed the salad in the morning when they will tend to be hungry enough to experiment. We chop ours and then drop it into the bowl piece by piece for stubborn eaters. The motion of falling into the bowl seems to get their attention and they start to eat it fine.
