Do baby savannah monitors need a uvb light?

The best light for monitors in general is the zoo-med UVB heat bulb, it provides both beneficial rays and heat, they DEFINATELY need UVB. These are easily found at your local pet store

you sure are full of knowledge lately. where is all this coming from? what experience or "proof" do you have that full spectrum lighting is "definitely" needed?

everyone can be an expert on the internet, but you need to understand the responsibility of giving out bad advice as well. we aren't trading baseball cards, you are "advising" someone about live animal husbandry. and most recently, poorly.

Since 1991, I have been raising monitors of many species with normal everyday like bulbs from any old store.

It seems what monitors need is simply heat. They need a heat range that allows them to activate all their processes.

Then consider, we have taken species after species thru many generations, with no calicum problems what so ever. Then consider, we have had monitor eggs incubating without missing a single day since 1991. So something must be right and UVB bulbs are not needed. Oh, I have monitors that are very old too.

A 22 year old lacie, a 15 ackie, and many many over 10 years of age. And they look good too.

Consider, UVB bulbs have not been shown to hurt anything either. ITs a matter of choice, you can spend $20.00 to $50.00 on a litebulb or $.25 to $4.00, and use the rest to better feed and care for your monitor. Cheers

I too have not used UV bulbs of any type. People claim that they need it to get the necessary D3 vitamins. Bull! Supplements can do that for the animal.
