Hello Everyone,
I put together a flier with information about HB783 and who to contact about it for us to post in our store and hand out to our customers. I just wanted to post a copy of it here for anyone interested. Please feel free to print it out and hand it to fellow reptile enthusiasts.
Ask your local pet store if they would be willing to post/handout copies to their customers. Also, check to see if your local vet will allow you to leave some at their clinic because if this bill passes, it would affect their businesses as well! The more people that know about what's going on and the more people we can get to voice their opposition to this bill - the better!
I can also email a copy of the flier to anyone interested. Just send me an email and I can forward it to you in either Microsoft Word format or as a PDF document. Also, let me know if you see any typos or any information that needs to be corrected on the flier.
Thanks,
Celia

ATTENTION REPTILE BREEDERS, KEEPERS & ENTHUSIASTS:
We need your help! A bill is currently pending vote by the Senate Natural Resource Committee. If this bill is passed, it will infringe on your right to keep snakes and potentially, ALL reptiles!
The bill, HB783 changes the state law from regulating the keeping of “Constrictors over 12 feet” to “ALL Constrictors”. If this bill passes, all non-indigenous constrictors – babies to adults, regardless of origin – would be subject to having a permit! That means YOU would need a permit for your pet Ball Python or Red Tailed Boa! It would also mean the end to all local reptile shows!
This bill also states that NO NEW PERMITS will be issued – meaning that you will not be able to buy, sell, trade or breed any non-indigenous constrictors!
We need to let the Senate Natural Resource Committee know that this bill is NOT acceptable. Please contact your Senators and ask him/her NOT to support or vote for this bill! Let them know that you oppose HB783! The number for Baton Rouge is (225) 342-2040. Please continue to make contacts to reinforce calls that others have made. We need to stand together in order to protect our rights and privileges to keep these magnificent animals.
Thank you for your efforts!
