Croc Enclosure in C.T.Dieter's book

seal Apr 30, 2006 02:31 AM

Hello!

Does anybody know the size of the enclosures pictured on page 37 of C.T. Dieter's book 'The ultimate guide to crocodilians in captivity'?
The pictures are courtesy of Bill Moss and are called 'Modern crocodilian enclosure'

The enclosure is 18 feet long x 6 feet wide. Half of the width x the full length is water.

Thank you Bill!

Do you know something about the waterdepth and up to which size the animals are kept in this enclosure?

nice day, Thomas

The water depth is approx (from memory) 14" to 16". He sent a bunch of caimans to a private facility in the south that were in the 4 to 5 foot range. I think he as a couple spec caiman and some gators in the 6 foot range in there now. Maybe a nile croc as well.
What really makes this system is the filtration and heating systems he designed and built.

Do you know how the heating system works? What's special about it?

nice day, Thomas

It's been so long that I've forgotten the details of how the systems work. I'd rather pass on trying to remember and getting it wrong.
