FARMINGTON OBSERVER (Michigan) 27 April 06 Alligator roams loose in local apartment complex (Sue Buck)
A woman who took out the trash at the Jamestown Apartments found more than garbage near the Dumpster Friday.
She was greeted by a three-foot alligator. Police think a resident in the Grand River and Halsted area abandoned the gator because it grew too big.
The startled woman immediately called police who responded to the scene.
Officer Shane Wash, one of the newest officers in the department, used a dog snare to capture the reptile, which was sent to the Michigan Humane Society shelter in Rochester Hills.
"They had quite a time finding someone who would take the alligator," said Farmington Public Safety Director Chuck Nebus.
Nebus, who recently returned from a trip to Florida, where he saw many alligators, said that he didn't expect to come face-to-face with one in Farmington.
"I guess that I could have just stayed home," Nebus joked.
