my small redear sliders shell is going softish around the edges...whats going on...how do i stop this?

It sounds like a calcium deficiency to me but I recommend getting him to the vet. What are you feeding him? I would make sure he has enough calcium in his diet and supplement with cuttlebone (hard backing removed).
Do you have proper full spectrum lighting? He needs the lighting to use the calcium and build his shell. How big/old is this turtle?
