well I've stumbled across Big Apple Herps' "bites". theres many different types for all animals, but none for a skink. i was wondering about mixing the monitor/tegu one with the bearded dragon one. the monitor/tegu one would make a good meat base while the Dragon one would make a good veggie/fruit base.

Brief descriptions of both:
MONITOR/TEGU BITES
The Bites are made with all natural ingredients (Chicken, Liver, Eggs, etc.) but carefully fortified with the proper ration and mix of minerals (calcium, iron, magnesium, zinc, etc), vitamins (Vit D,C,B1,6,12, etc), protein (whey protein, soy protein & milk solids) and nutriceuticals (spirulina, yucca schnidegeri, wheat germ, etc). The Monitor/Tegu Bites Offer a complete balance of essential nutrients, minerals, vitamins, and moisture

BEARDED DRAGON BITES
The Bites are made with all natural ingredients (Fruits, Vegetables, Eggs, etc.) but carefully fortified with the proper ration and mix of minerals (calcium, iron, magnesium, zinc, etc), vitamins (Vit D,C,B1,6,12, etc), protein (whey protein, soy protein & milk solids) and nutriceuticals (spirulina, yucca schnidegeri, wheat germ, etc). The Bearded Dragon Bites Offer a complete balance of essential nutrients, minerals, vitamins, and moisture

What does everyone think? good idea or bad idea? any addition comments would be greatly appreciated!!! THANKYOU!

Nature Zone has "bites" that I think can be used with BTSs. In their ads they even have a picture of a blue tongue chomping away at them.

no need for that expensive stuff...

just buy the shredded chicken or ground turkey at your deli, boil a bit, and mix in with chopped veggies. fresher is better AND cheaper.

Make sure to download/read the food charts at www.bluetongueskinks.net

Sphaghetti squash is a great staple for the veggies. Buy a mini black&Decker food chopper.

stay away from canned anything if you can.

I've been feeding mine Kale, Collard Greens, and Dandelion Greens either alternating or all mixed together. Also i've been using canned dog food for protein. I want to find something better then the dog food, but just as convienient. I offer a little fruit every now and then, I probably should do so more often.

kale is not good for herps... much like broccoli. I would concentrate on using sphagetti/acorn/butternut squash as the veggie staple. All are very high in calcium.
Also, most cat canned foods are reccommended over dog. and buy the expensive stuff at the yuppie grocery store...first ingredient should be whole chicken. not meal or by product.
Hope that helps.
