Paradon Apr 30, 2006 01:47 PM

What is the average life span of the beardies? I heard of up to 7 years is very common if fed a good diet and maintain in a good environment.

i have read in good captivity housing the lifespan is about 7-10 years. of course caretaking, health, and many other variables take place in how long they live. in the wild i have read of them living up to 10-15 years. like i said that this what i have read in research books and various caresheets

I have also read that 8-10 years is common. With husbandry practices getting better all the time, I am sure the upper side will become the norm. We had a young lady live to almost 13 before passing.

I bought my first dragon from a pet store 7 years ago this June. He was an adult then, and he's still going strong. I estimate him to be around 8-9 years old. They told me then he'd only live to be 5 - 7 years old, but then they told me he wouldn't eat anything but crickets. He ate salad for me the first day I had him.

Friend of mine has one that is 12 this year. He's had it since it was a 2 month old hatchling.

I have posted his pics before but the first Dragon we ever had is still alive and kicking, he will be 12 this year. He was even chasing the girls around the last month or so. We also have an older female that is at least 10 (she was an adult when we got her); she is definitely showing her age with some arthritis but hanging in there.
