Just got back from my first South Texas snake hunting trip in 3 years. Hunted Friday night and Saturday night. Friday night only yielded two 3-3 1/2 ft. atrox in close proximity to eachother. They most likely just bred and were on their way. The wind was blowing about 20-25 mph. Skies cleared about 10 pm. conditions were terrible for herps. Saw a few toads after that.
Saturday night,..absolutley nothing. Earlier in the day on the way back from Choke Canyon State Park, I saw a fairly fresh D.O.R. Emoryi Rat. This would be the only snake the rest of the trip. Exactly like people have been saying,....if it does not rain soon and keep raining for a while, we will be lucky to find any snakes at all. I am setting my sites on West Texas now. Will be there the second weekend in May, mainly for business reasons, but will slip in a night of herping.

I hear ya' Wayne. Been dry and windy and lots of ranchers have been toasting the fields down 77 betwixt Sarita and Norias. I didn't see but one live snake all week working the valley, and it was a Mexican racer. Did see 2 Mex milks, several DBR's, 2 coachwhips, a glossy and a cat eyed snake, all d.o.r. and in onesies and twosies.

i went out last tuesday night around ricardo, it was drizzling most of the night and i figured it would be the best chance in a while. saw one dor southwestern rat, and some toads (texas, gulf coast, and couches spadefoot). was really really hoping to see some more snakes with the mosture but no such luck. if we dont get some serious rain soon, we are going to be hurtin.

i did find a 6' "chicken snake" (bull snake) eating my chickens the other night. i gave him to my herp professor to use for demonstrations.

and there is a guy in town that gets alot of wc stuff from all over south texas ranches. he has a couple milks right now, both are male, and one is absolutely stunning. i did get what appears to be an 05 female mex hognose from him last sunday, that has already eaten a live scented pinky for me.

I guess you need the help of the Hollywood Herpers. I have been to AZ a few times this year and done O.K. I do not think I will make it out this year but will keep tabs on things. Hope all is well with you and your family. I have a crazy idea for you, stop trying so hard to find some new blood and work on breeding the kick a$$ ones you already have. Keep on that list for babies this year.

And leave more snakes for you "Hollywoods" to find???.............NAAAAAAAAAA! I can do both. Find new blood AND breed the "kick ass" stuff! I guess you can do so well in AZ because you are so close. I just had a buddy come back from last week and scored a big zero. Too cold and dry he said. I guess since you and the Yani Miester wont be coming to Texas, we can be assured to have at least a few more alterna to choose from! The family's good and all say HOWDY!
