A few pics of my pastel savannah

hemingway Apr 30, 2006 06:19 PM

Hi there folks. A few weeks ago, I saw a thread on this forum debating the nature of the so-called pastel savannah monitor (http://forums.kingsnake.com/view.php?id=1047208,1047208). I'm not a real monitor expert by any stretch, but thought I would share some pics of my pretty, light-colored savannah and maybe get some feedback. I got him/her for christmas, and he's grown sbstantially since then. Pardon the stuck shed on the back. He got a few pieces stuck this cycle, and they're coming off still. I'l take some more pics once he's clean, but we finally had some ok light for outdoor photos, so thought I'd take advantage. Fuller sunlihgt or a better camera might have helped me capture the colors better -- he has really nice pinks, peaches, and blues on the sides -- but I think you get the idea.

trying again -- tried to put the pics in the body, but that didn't seem to work. You can check out the larger images in the photo gallery for more detail.

True pastals and hypos, stay that way as adults. All of the lite savs like yours have turned as dark as normal babies, once they get older. At least so I am told by several friends that have raised those.

So raise it up and let us know how it turns out. Good luck

I've heard several people say that they turn dark as they age, so I'm very interested to see what happens as my little guy grows up. I've also never seen any before/after pictures from those folks, so I'd be interested in seeing those as well. If you know of anbody who's gone through that and might have some pics, definitely encourage them to post.

I'm not sure if there is a definitive answer to this question, but thought I would run it by you guys. I know that denotatively, hypo just means that the animal has reduced melanin, but is there any marker trait in Savannahs that parallels the way clear nails in beared dragons identify a hypo? I know I saw a hypo sold on the classifieds a few weeks ago that was an older imported animal, and I was just curious how that determination is made. While we're on the topic, what do a normal sav's nails look like? I don't really have a basis for comparison, but mine are clear. Thanks for your input.
