nucklephil Apr 30, 2006 07:13 PM

I never posted on here before but, I've been waiting for the right uros for me and found a pair of mali uromastyx from doug on deer fern farms, very nice little pair, they are both freckles, male and female. They are about 1 year old, and should be ready to breed next year.

female

I have the cage all ready for them its a 5x2x2. Substrate is washed playsand, natural sand washed, and mud also washed, all dryed out, Its very nice. I do have uvb. temps range from 120 to 85 cool end. All the rocks cant move, and the cage I believe has a total of 11 hides.

"They are about 1 year old, and should be ready to breed next year'

It is extremely unlikely that they will be ready to breed next year.
This is a 'good' thing as you are just starting out with uromastyx and should concentrate your focus on learning about these animals and their husbandry before attempting to leap ahead with issues like breeding.

Congratulations on your new uros, they are a stunning pair. I love the freckled ones. As Deb said below, you will need more than a year for them to be ready to breed. I posted that mine laid their first eggs a few days ago, and they are 3 years old. Enjoy them, they are wonderful animals. Best of luck to you.
