What's active down there right now? I'm planning a day trip down there, and i'd like to know when I should go, and what to expect. Any & all advice would be welcome.

I got to LBI most weekends during the summer and, since it's on my way, I usually take a spin through Greenwood forest for a few hours. I've been surprised by how few herps I've seen there.
Maybe it's just me. I seem to do really well most other places I herp, but I think I've seen one (!) N.pine in two years! Perhaps there are "special spots" that are more productive and I haven't found them. I hear the cranberry bogs are good but when I tried to get to them (I went so far as to use satellite imagery to find them) I wandered onto military training grounds. Not good.
Sooo, if you've never been there before I would tell you that you may not see as much as you may hope. Or you may get lucky! I hope you do.

"Nothing happens in contradiction to nature, only to what we know of it."
If your planning to hike around looking for herps make sure you do not have "anything" that would be used as a collecting container. If you have a bag, container, hook or rake on you or in your vehicle you will be detained. Unfortunately it's actually illegal to pick up the animals and the NJ Fish & Game website confirms this. They consider it molesting the animal. Good luck.

Thanks for the heads up. I've heard pretty much the same thing on other boards as well. I just want a decent chance of finding something during my one day trip down there. On the other hand, i've seen great Barrens trips photos, so there are places to go. I'm just looking for a general area to focus on.
Pine barrens are unpredictable. One day you will catch a ton of stuff. The next nothing. You just have to be there at the right time.
