Infected scale?

snakelady2 May 01, 2006 08:22 AM

My Cal King has this one scale on his back that is surrounded by a little bit of black "goo." At first this wasn't very noticable, but now the edges are a little darker in spite of the fact he's shed a few times. Anyone have any comments? Do I need to take him to the vet, or is there some household remedy for this? The scale itself seems to be intact. Thanks for all the info.

Try a little Neosporin on it for about four or five days and see if it gets any better, If the scale is raised there might be something under the scale. If you feed live mice, it might be a bite wound. If it doesn't look any better after about a week, than seek a vet.

Thanks so much for your input. We only feed our snakes frozen mice, so I'm not sure what caused it. We will try your suggestion.
