Scabs are dislodging!

dianedfisher May 01, 2006 08:23 AM

Valentino's burn scabs are falling off. Saturday when I applied his silver sulfadine creme some of the areas close to his tail were very loose and rubbed off when I smoothed on the creme. This morning when the mister kicked on, Valentino was under it, scratching with his hind legs, like a triple-jointed dog with fleas,in an attempt to remove some of the looser scabs. It looked pretty funny. The skin appears to be pale green and kind of orange-peel textured. I guess we'll just have to wait and see what the final result will be. Do you think I should stop applying the silver sulfadine creme now? If any of you have advice how to procede from here I'm open for suggestions. I can't believe he is still with me and I don't want to mess him up after he's fought so hard! Diane

souds good. They might re-form, so don't be surprised if they do.

The tissue under the scabs was a raw, reddish color for a while. My male had two sets of scabs. the first was very thick, on his side and leg. He actually pulled them off himself when they became loose. Soon, a new set of scabs formed over the raw skin. It wasn't quite as thick as the first scabs were, but still was pretty big. Eventually, these became loose and fell off.

During the whole time, I applied SS cream to the raw areas, and some of the scabbed ares. When the scabs became loose, I used a q-tip to apply the cream to the raw skin underneath. After the second scabs fell off, it was pretty much a done deal. I still applied the cream, just in case, until the tisse was clearly dry, scar tissue and not raw and moist.

I'm sure he'll be perfectly fine after all this. Make sure you take lots of pics now, so you can compare after he heals.

Thanks, Eric. I'll keep up with the SS creme until all skin is fully healed. I certainly wouldn't want him to come this far and THEN get an infection. Diane
