breeding dilemma

XtremeXteriors May 01, 2006 12:00 PM

I have 2 or 3 females that are of age but i didnt think they would make this years breeding cycle, but it turns out that they have reached good breeding size 1400 g each. should i breed them to my pastel this year to try to get as many pastel females as i can or wait till next year and breed them either to my pastel or albino? Im just a lil concerned about trying to sell hets because im not well known yet in the BP community and i dont know what the trust level is for newbies selling on KS

any help would be appreciated

I would wait and put a few hundred more grams on them. But that's just me - I'm in no rush (LOL).

I would also be more inclined to do the co-dom approach first year out. Once you get your foot in the door it will be easier to sell the hets, or maybe you can make enough on your first years clutches to pick up a a decent sized het albino female. I think if you have produced some albinos as well as the hets for sale it is more assuring to people that might otherwise pass on the deal.

I wouldn't worry about the fact that you are new. Worst case scenario with the hets you just hold back the females for future breeders and sell the males at a cheap price and state their genetics. You will build a good reputation as long as you provide excellent quality and customer service. I have been in the reptile game for 6 years now and just recently began doing it full time and let me tell you there are more than a few people that will give you a chance if you take the time to answer questions and treat people fairly.
