Shipping a corn

obsolescenttears May 01, 2006 02:54 PM

My girl is 4.5 ft. How would I go about packaging her up? I am doing overnight/next day. I have never shipped a snake. What kind of container padding, where to get heat packs? Do I need to use any heat packs? Should I feed her first? Should I mark the box reptile or live animal or anything at all?

Thanks

Tianna

i have never shipped myself, but i have had items shipped to me... i'd double wrap her in a snake bag or even a pillow case or 2. shippers usually dont like "live snake" on the side so its usually "perishables" and its always a box lined in styrofoam and then filled with shredded or crunched paper. i'll give you a website to go to to get an idea... go to:

I have never shipped, but know that you are supossed to be certified with that carrier to do it. I have had one snake shipped to me (and that guy was not certified). The snake just came in a "perishables" box. It was lined with styrofoam. The snake was in a snake bag with crumpled news paper all around her to cushion her and stop her from moving/sliding around inside the box. There was also a heat pad taped to the top, but she was shipped in the winter. I just had some crickets and meal worms shipped to me and the box was hot to the touch and the meal worms were dead. (Did I mention UPS sucks) I don't think you need the heat pad. I would not put "Live Reptile" or "snake" on the out side or you probably won't be able to ship it.
You could tell the guy that handed me the box (with the snake that was shipped to me) had no idea it was a live pet, or a snake inside. He held it in one hand, carried it on its side, and just kinda handed it to me. Not gently like someone would if they knew what was inside. This was through Fed Ex. The box was in mush better condition than the stuff I get from UPS.
