chameleons are awesome creatures!

dumbkid Jul 30, 2003 02:44 PM

chameleons are truly awesome. the way instincts kick in when they hide, the way they hunt, and how they view our big world. i am in love with chameleons. i love the way they move, with such patience, how thier tails curl. and how they pay such great attention to everything around them, making sure they arent in harms way. they attack with precision, locking on to thier prey, then striking. i love thier feet, and how God designed them to be able to grasp branches with such grace. thier tails are also amazing. just think of the diversity that chameleons represent. i know i probably sound really corny, but just ponder it for a while. some of us take our beautiful world for granted. and we need to realize how this world wasnt created by some "big bang," it was created by something greater. a truly awesome God.

...it is nice to see that you recognize how truly wonderful these rather strange creatures are and to write it so eloquently - for a dumbkid

I think that between your appreciation for these attributes and paying attention to the advice given on this forum you will go on to be a good cham keeper. You are learning that, as Sonia had pointed out, that these are high maintenance and expensive animals to keep but very rewarding and deserve the proper care and attention they demand. WE are the ones who chose to bring them in from the wild so it is OUR responsibility to care for them.

I don’t think it is corny at all to be awe inspired by the world around us and regardless of how one believes it came into existence it is something to be cherished, nurtured, and taken care of by all of us on the planet – every little thing we do has consequences. This world is not ours (humans) – plants, insects and animals were here LONG before us and will be here long after we have eradicated our own species…and we are doing just that.

OK, I will stop my little philosophical monologue so as not to get TOO far off topic or stir up a thread that is inappropriate to this forum. I suppose my point, dumbkid, is that you’re not so dumb and maybe you should consider changing your username LOL!

not at all I didn't think it was sarcastic

I was going to ask you what DFL meant, now I know but now I'm curious as to the reason behind it?

Demon_Hunter Jul 30, 2003 04:31 PM

Skaters that are cham-keepers. Classic!

I'm an old school skater who also has an extensive Skateboard collection. I chose the names of my two chams based on two of my favorite skateboarders who also had two of the most colorful skateboards from the '70's and '80's:

Sims LESTER Kasai "Splat" from '85
Dogtown SHOGO Kubo "Airbeam" from '79

Small world...

(here's a previously posted pic of Shogo posing on his namesake...)

You know your stuff! Yes, Shogo was part of the Zephyr team. Major props to you for knowing that! And thanks for the respect and props to the old boards and the old schoolers. It's very appreciated

I'm also in SoCal...where are you? I'm just outside the SF Valley. SkateLab in Simi Valley is one of my haunts.

And, here's Lester at 4 months with his namesake...

im originally from michigan, but i moved out here new years day this year. its been a big change. i used to live in the san bernadino area, but then i moved down closer to san diego. i hate all the stupid waivers and stuff. i got a ticket for not wearing a helmet and pads skating down the street. lame. so im just skating, i makin a video. have you seen the cKy videos? well if you have, im doin that kinda stuff in the video.

anyway, thats so cool that your chams are named after skaters. maybe i should've named mine jay, for jay adams.

been skating for over 15 years and been breeding herps for over 10-it's cool to meet people that are into both

Joel_Fish Jul 31, 2003 10:47 AM

ok, so I'm old. I had my first skateboard in 1965! Then in, I think 1975 or 76, lexan wheels were developed, and I went for it again. In the mid-80's, I was a half-pipe skater and broke some things....

These days, I windsurf (waves mostly) whenever I can and snowboard a lot.

I'm learning to kiteboard now. I'll be standin' on some type of board until I die.

It would be cool to have some type of board (wind, sno, skate, kite) with cham grahics on it.

dumbkid - when's your vid coming out?

my video is coming out some time in 2004. i might get some more editing software and a whole new computer soon. hopefully. i used to be able to edit like nothing, but now, my computer has a laughable 1.6 gigs left on it. it sucked anyway when i got it. 33 gigs. haha. i need 120 gigs, and a computer with firewire, a dvd burner, and a sony graphics card. anybody wanna donate that exact computer to me? haha.

i know a guy that used to do freelance filming with pros, and ams. he said he could hook me up with a job, but he stopped doing it a long time ago, so he lost a lot of his contacts. major suckage.

It doesn't get any better! lol. They are amazing, I agree. I can't imagine life without Orion!

mbmcewen Jul 30, 2003 10:21 PM

Orion is a nice name

chimbakka Jul 31, 2003 10:42 AM

thanks
I was planning on getting a pair. I was going to name the male Orion and the female Neptune. Then my next pair would be Venus and Mercury.
BUT... I'm pretty sure (99%) than Orion is female, lol.
Now I'm lost. hehe
A male named Neptune? Perhaps.

mbmcewen Jul 31, 2003 05:41 PM

Neptune is the Roman equivalent of the Greek God Poseidon, so the name would definately work for a male.
