i had a really close call tonight!!!!!!!

adamjeffery May 01, 2006 09:23 PM

well i came into the snake room to check on all the snakes and feed some of them, so i looked into my snows cage and did not see him, this in itself is not unusual.so i started looking in the hides and still did not see him now i start to get a little freaked.so i give the screen top a tug and one corner popped up. CRAP i said to myself. hes gone visions of tearing the room apart at 10 o'clock and searching for hours come to mind then i see a bright white tail on the floor behind the cage. i reach down a grab him yelled for my gf to come and move the cage stand while im holding on to him, hes trying to pull himself down the only escape route in the room. the heater vent!!! we get it moved and get him back in his cage and relief was mine to enjoy. this was the first escape since switching to esu toughtops and that was 3 years ago so i was flippin. all i can guess is that i must of not snapped the clip down all the way last time i held him.
thanx for reading

Your right that is a close call, you know thats why I use multiple clips on the questionable cages. Never can be too safe wth the crafty little ones.

Glad for the outcome. Still hunting one of mine.

But just an idea, when I sell a tank setup I take aquarium tubing and tie it in a nut and wrap the ends of the tanks. Place the knot under it and at the ends and you hardly see it.

I also played with the idea od taking a 3" drywall screw. Snap the head off.
Cut the tubing about 3" to short from wrapping the tank. And just shove the tubing on the screw half each way. It goes on easy because your forcing the tubing fatter. Pull on it it will tighten down on the screw. Sorry no pics, but if you need one let me know. Cheap and it works great.

congrats on the save. It is so much better to have a close call than a total miss. Maybe put chicken wire or some kinda metal mesh over the vent so he can't get through. Just in case there is another escape.
