Intergrades: Useful or not useful?

spilota May 01, 2006 10:39 PM

anyone down for a friendly discussion on this controversial topic?

here's my opinion:
you can get some nice looking snakes that make great pets when you inter-breed the various subspecies. however, these snakes do not represent true herpetoculture and are somewhat of an abomination to the species themselves.

i think the one area i feel most strongly about this is with the jaguars... they are supposed to be 100% pure mcdowelli.

...as in supposed to be from pure coastals. Unless you witnessed the generational breedings that lead up to the pair which produced the Jags, then it is only speculation. You either believe they are pure or you do not.

Coastals and Jungles' range overlap on the Atherton table, and I'd be very surprised if there wasn't natural interbreeding. Same with Diamonds.

"these snakes do not represent true herpetoculture "

Herpetoculture is the keeping and breeding of reptiles.
And does not reflect pure, intergrades, or hybrids. It
represents them all.

Mardy breeder of those Awful Jaguar crosses.
