She was suppose to lay at the beginning of July...but now it is the end and nothing. There is a moist nest box. She looks huge and I think she is carrying. This is her second fertile clutch. Before this she would lay every month. This isn't normal but I was under the impression that a female would lay if there was a proper nest box and that the chances of having an egg bound female was very slim.

Could she just be taking a bit longer. What is the longest gestation period you have heard of? Should I make a trip to the vets or see how it goes. It has been hot up and down for the last month maybe something went wrong or she did not start producing the eggs until a bit later. I'll check her egg box again tonight.

Her other two eggs are doing fine and should be hatching next week.

Any ideas?

How often does she usually lay? I have a female that lays a clutch about every 3 weeks durring the breeding season and another that goes about twice that between clutches. So I think there is a fair amount of variability there depending on the individual as well as several other factors such as diet and temperature. Maybe this late in the season she could even be done laying and is just putting some weight back on after the stresses of egg production. Just some thoughts.

Well I caught her digging yesterday so I think your right about each female being different. Before she was laying infertile and was laying every month, but this is her second fertile clutch so I'm not sure if her fertile eggs will take a bit longer. I do know that 'both' her last eggs are fertile. I have another female who lays 2 eggs but only one seems to be fertile. I have 3 babies from her and they were from 3 separate clutches. Yet the last batch she laid both seems to be fertile.

Hopefully she'll lay soon.
